Every aluminium cill we manufacture is powder coated to a RAL colour of your choice. RAL is the European standard colour matching system used by window manufacturers, render suppliers, and architects across Ireland. We powder coat in our Dublin facility using a controlled application and oven cure process that delivers a 60 to 80 micron paint film, fully bonded to the aluminium substrate, with a 25 to 30 year guaranteed lifespan against fade and corrosion.
Three RAL colours dominate Irish residential and commercial cill orders. RAL 7016 anthracite grey is the runaway leader, accounting for over 40 percent of orders. It coordinates with anthracite window frames, dark grey render, and contemporary architecture. RAL 9005 jet black is the second most ordered colour, used with black window frames and modernist designs. RAL 9010 pure white is the traditional choice for white windows, white render, and conservation projects. Beyond these three, RAL 7022 umbra grey, RAL 7039 quartz grey, and RAL 9001 cream are popular alternatives.
If your window manufacturer specifies a RAL colour for the frames, give us the same RAL number and the cill will match. The window industry standard for anthracite is RAL 7016, but some manufacturers use RAL 7012 basalt grey, RAL 7022 umbra grey, or RAL 7043 traffic grey B. Confirm the exact RAL number with your window supplier before ordering. We can colour match to a non standard or custom shade by quotation, contact sales for non RAL colour matching.
On EWI retrofits, the cill colour either matches the render or contrasts with it deliberately. Anthracite cills against a white silicone render is the most popular contemporary look in Ireland. Render suppliers such as Weber, Baumit, Sto, and Parex publish RAL equivalents for their standard render colours. Ask your contractor or render supplier for the RAL number and we will match exactly.
Our powder coating process is a four stage industrial finish. First, the aluminium is degreased and chromated to provide a corrosion resistant base. Second, the powder coating is applied electrostatically to a uniform 60 to 80 micron film thickness. Third, the coated cill is oven cured at 200 degrees C for 15 minutes to bond the powder to the aluminium substrate. Fourth, every cill is inspected for coating defects before dispatch. The finished cill carries a 25 year guarantee against fade, chalk, and corrosion under normal exterior exposure. Coastal and high pollution environments use a hybrid silicone polyester finish at 80 to 120 microns for extended performance.
Standard finish is satin matt, the most popular texture for residential and commercial cills. Available alternatives include semi gloss for a slightly higher sheen, full gloss for maximum reflectivity, and textured (fine sand or coarse sand) for a tactile architectural finish. Texture choice does not affect colour or guarantee, but matt finishes hide minor scratches better than gloss finishes in long term use.
Ask your window supplier or render contractor. Most window frames are supplied in a specific RAL number that is printed on the order confirmation. If you cannot find it, send us a sample or photograph and we will identify the closest RAL match.
Yes, by quotation. Custom colour matching takes 5 to 10 working days for the test panel and adds approximately 15 to 20 percent to the powder coating cost.
RAL 7016 is anthracite grey, slightly bluer and darker. RAL 7012 is basalt grey, slightly browner and lighter. The difference is subtle but visible side by side. Most Irish window frames use RAL 7016.
25 years guaranteed against fade and corrosion under normal exterior exposure. In practice powder coated aluminium cills routinely last 30 to 40 years before any noticeable fading.
Yes. Coastal and high pollution sites use a hybrid silicone polyester finish at 80 to 120 microns. This is specified by default for any project within 5km of the coast.

Modern polyester powder coatings are formulated for UV stability. The guarantee covers fade for 25 years. In practice, properly applied powder coatings do not noticeably fade in the Irish climate within their service life.
Minor scratches can be touched up with matching air drying paint. For deep damage, the cill should be returned for re coating. We supply touch up paint with every order on request.
